How to share brand guidelines with a client

Short answer

Send a link to one place that always has the current guide, plus the files your client needs. An attachment works once, but the copy they save goes out of date the next time the brand changes.

Three ways to share it

  • Email attachment. Easy, but it's a copy. It gets buried, and every update means another email.
  • Shared folder. One place to look, but people still download copies, and access breaks when accounts change.
  • A link to a web guide. Always current, nothing to download, works on any device. It needs an internet connection.

What to send with it

  • The link, and the password separately if it has one
  • Where to get the logo and font files
  • Who to ask with questions

Make it easy to find

Ask your client to bookmark it, and put the link in your handoff email's subject line. If the guide is hard to find, people use whatever file they saved instead.

With Gydlyne you send one link. Your client needs no account, and it always shows the latest version.

Questions

Should I password-protect a brand guide?

If it shows anything not yet public, like an unreleased logo, yes. Otherwise an unlisted link is usually enough.
